UNYCHRQ logoUpstate New York Consortium for Health Care Research and Quality (UNYCHRQ) is a regional research consortium whose members represent the premier medical, biomedical, health services and health policy institutions of Upstate New York. The combined expertise of the members of UNYCHRQ encompasses the entire spectrum of health research and delivery, from basic biomedical research, through clinical trials and implementation of evidence-based medicine, to health services and health policy. By agreeing to a common set of goals, and collaborating to achieve them, UNYCHRQ represents a truly unique effort to transform Upstate New York into a world-renowned regional center for medical and health research.

UNYCHRQ Mission

The mission of UNYCHRQ is to improve health and health care in Upstate New York by facilitating research partnerships among its member organizations.

UNYCHRQ Goals

Members of UNYCHRQ include medical schools, hospitals, universities, colleges and private research institutions.  In achieving its mission, the members of UNYCHRQ work together to:

  1. expand and strengthen the medical research base in Upstate New York
  2. increase access to federal and other research funding for Upstate New York
  3. accelerate the translation of research discoveries from the laboratory through clinical trials and into evidence-based medicine
  4. influence health care policy at the local, state, and national level through publications and advocacy

In 2006, ten of the institutions of UNYCHRQ joined together to form the Upstate New York Translational Research Network (UNYTRN), a component of the University of Rochester’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI). The goals of UNYTRN are to increase the performance of high-quality clinical and translational research in the upstate New York region and promote research collaboration by identifying and removing barriers to efficient clinical and translational research, reducing resource duplication, and improving access to technologies, facilities, services, and expertise at member institutions.

UNYCHRQ Vision

The vision of UNYCHRQ can best be summed up by this statement by one of our members:

“The creation of this consortium will change the face of research in New York and would make Upstate New York competitive with any other region in the country. It will put New York on the research map and serve as a model of collaboration for the nation.”
